This morning I noticed the microphone on my apple headphones is working with my 830. This was not the case with any of my previous windows phones. Of course, the volume control doesn't work but the button presses work as you'd expect as well

cool, I just tried my Logitech UE 600vi. While the control and the microphone never worked on my L920 (these were designed specifically for Apple products), at least the Pause/Play button and the microphone works after long press. This is great!

I noticed this with my parents new 630s. I have a 620, which the mic and button on a pair of iphone compatible headphones don't work on, but it does on the 630. Good news, as I have an 830 on order and was hoping it was the case for it as well.

Good, it had been hard to find decent headsets that worked and I hate in ear buds

I've got 3 decent pairs, a Philips Fidelio L1, Philips Fidelio M1 (black and orange, looks awesome), and pair of Martin Logan Mikros 90. The latter are normally $90 or so on Newegg (original MSRP was $300), but they go on shell shocker for $60 seems like once every other week or so.

Those look nice, but not very pocketable.

Since they work now, I'm quite happy with the apple branded earpods. I may not have been clear but the"in ear" headphones I'm talking about are the type that make a tight seal
inside your ears that block out the rest of the world. When I want that, I'll grab my over the ear set, when I'm working through the day or on a phone call, something basic does the job for me.
