I noticed a yellow band running down the left side of my Surface Pro 3 I5/256 Yesterday. I didn't think a whole lot of it until again today I noticed it and did a search and see this is a problem. I called MS and they of course were playing dumb talking about dead pixels and I immediately let him know this is not about dead pixels or calibration due to the fact that there are tons of complaints on line. I'm also seeing complaints from previous Surface models. They are talking refurbished unit replacement and I am pissed. I saw a few complaints were people mention unit with wear as well as having the same yellow band issue.

Now I'm wondering if I should wait until this issue is fixed but I see it is ongoing and I not see a big hoopla about it. It is a definite quality issue. Why is that?

Has anyone else been through this and if so what was the resolution. We all have too much money invested in this thing to let it slide.

Dude! Before you call somebody names why don't you check it out first? That website is legit. It's the same site that I was told to use by a MSFT rep to replace my power cover when a key broke off.

smh

I second that its a legit site but its always good to be cautious especially when handing over credit information. If in doubt just go to microsoft.com and find your own way to the surface service centre page, oh and you should probably apologise to azskygod - Adam

I do apologize for the 'pos' comment. That being said I would never follow a link on a board or even post one that didn't go directly through a MS or similar link. Just me.

In any case I know how to get another, the question actually should have gone deeper. I want to know if people had issues with the second unit as I read many did. Wondering if MS has fixed the issue with refurbs or new units. I'm not keen on refurbs from any company accept Apple but it may be the only option offered. I live less than 5 minutes from a MS store so getting one is not an issue. Guess I'll just back-up, yank my sd card and find out myself.

FYI.....I'm not a "dude".

Any of the sites for surface.com are the Surface teams vanity URL, it is owned by Microsoft. The Yellow Band issue happens when the LCD Crystals get stuck, typically because of a manufacturing issue when bonding the screen, there we some issues with some early lots from what I tell. Microsoft will replace the unit.

Um...Dudette?

From personal experience, the reps at the Microsoft Store will just sit you down on one of their machines and have you sign into that link and request a replacement. They don't do direct replacements from the store. At least they didn't when I needed to replace my power cover.

I just got my surface a few days ago, but it was almost a nonstarter. The Best Buy I was purchasing in had 3 display models and all 3 had a yellow line down the left side. I originally thought maybe there was some issue with screen burn in or similar. If its a manufacturing issue then it's not something I should worry about developing over time? It should be visible from the start?

Yup..happened to me. I returned it, using CCARD so I could get my replacement quickly. No issues with banding on this one (other issues though).

I just noticed a yellow line on my SP3. I called support and they are replacing it. Great customer service, but I'm disappointed in how common this issue is.

THEY WILL NOT REPLACE THE UNIT IF IT IS EVEN 1 MONTH OUT OF WARRANTY. This is clearly ridiculous as the cause of the yellow screen discoloraction is a manafacturing defect. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL / FREE REPAIR as it is NOT an issue of normal wear and tear.
