So I use the MPATool to set artist pictures and album art for my windows 8.0 Lumia Icon. If I update to windows 8.1, will there be any way to select the artist pictures and album art?

No, you'd would still have to use MPATool to add missing album and artist photos.

But the MPAtool says it isn't compatible for 8.1...

Oh, that sucks. I didn't know it didn't work on WP8.1. I personally put my music through Media Monkey and Windows Media Player editing and tagging to ensure it properly looks good, but that's just me.

The description says it's not compatible:
MPAtool | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

But the "works with" section, says it is. Did the developer maybe just not edit the comments? (I haven't upgraded to 8.1 yet, because I like this app)
Can anyone on 8.1 confirm whether or not it's working?

Its working but only with the "old" Music App. There is an application that pins the old app to your homescreen.

Music Hub Tile | Windows Phone Apps+Games Store (United States)

You will be able to see the artist pics again. Also, in the settings menu, if you toggle the "show artist on lockscreen" on and off while playing a song, it should show the artist again there too.

I finished my 8.1 upgrade moments ago, thanks for the tip Benny!

The new version of xbox music sucks. I hope Microsoft doesn't disable this shortcut.

MediaMonkey will not help you to add artist pictures as Joseph originally asked!

I use mp3tag to name songs/albums and add art: Http://www.mp3tag.de

You can 'select all' & drag/drop the album cover off your desktop to bulk edit the cover for that album. Same can be done for artist name & album title.

Since I started tagging music this way, I no longer have missing art & data.
