Automatic Brightness affected by change in region settings

Every battery saving article/tip out there tells you to use the Low setting for Screen Brightness instead of Automatic on the WP8 phone. I have found Automatic to actually be more efficient in getting the brightness way low, since I do a lot of my phone use in the dark or dim light of the night.

Today, MPA tool started giving me issues and I couldn't find it in the app store after uninstalling. So I changed the region from India to USA and still didn't find it. But what I realised was that my screen had become much brighter, almost like the Low setting level. I thought I was just being delusional until I changed back to India and down went the brightness.

Is this a co-incidence?

Odd things do happen with this mechanism so I believe that one. Try this; I find that if I manually select high then turn on auto, it varies over a brighter range than if I set it to low, then turn on auto. My favoured option is low/auto as this saves the battery the most whilst staying pretty visible in light.

Well, I am not saying it varies as per region, but that it's randomly deciding to change the brightness just because I changed a setting. This didn't repeat when I just tried changing regions. I agree with AndyCalling - though it's the Low that give me the relatively brighter Auto result, at least on this particular uptime. Who knows what the result will be after the next restart?

I haven't figured out what triggers brightness changes. I've covered and uncovered the front sensor and moved in and out of bright areas with no reaction. The only consistent thing I've noticed is that after a few minutes of use the display brightens up.

Automatic Brightness is still the buggiest function on my post-GDR2 HTC 8X.
