Battery Dies Over Night

I've had my lumia for 2 weeks now, and all has been fine with it. The battery hasn't been amazing, but it would last me all day on a full charge. However, the past 4 days or so, I have noticed something weird going on at night. My phone will have a decent charge left (anywhere from 30-50%), but I will wake up to a dead phone.
A few things to note that make it very odd.
1. I have battery saver on and no running background apps
2. the first night it happened, I woke up early in the morning to my phone SCORCHING hot. No idea what could have happened, unless I sleep play with my phone. (it may still be doing this, but that night I had it under my pillow and woke up to it that way. I have kept it on my night stand since)
3. Whenever it does die, I am able to turn the phone back on and get about 30 minutes worth of standby out of it.

This phone is great, and I'd hate to have to go through the trouble of replacing it and having to deal with Best Buy. The only thing that I have ever done differently in the past few days is added some espn alerts, which I have never done on any smartphone of mine. Does this drain the battery, or is it only pulling alerts when there is an alert to send? Other than just some games and basic apps, nothing has been added to my phone that would drain the battery like this.

Putting it under your pillow will block the signal, a.nd the phone will get hot searching for a signal

To that extent? I've kept all my phones under my pillow at night and have never had a problem with it draining/overheating. It was the first time this had happened with the lumia and I had kept it under my pillow most nights. And the phone was still draining the other nights that I didn't keep it under the pillow.

Yeah, putting your smartphone under your pillow is like putting a screen door on a submarine. Would you sleep with a laptop under your pillow?

The processors need to breath, sir. And yes, your ESPN app may be causing the extra warmth. It's probably looking for updates at regular intervals and if your pillow IS hampering your signal, it's going to keep looking and working to find a signal.

I assume you put the phone there so you can hear the alarm but do yourself a favor and charge your phone at night and crank the volume of your alarm. These phones can overheat and can start fires. It's rare but it does happen.

I see the same thing. I've tried all of the suggested tricks to combat this none seem to work reliably.
I've even turned off wifi, put it in airplane mode, and stuck it in battery saver mode and it still does it.

I've seen other weird things too. If I carry the 920 in my pocket I get great battery life, like 3-4 days if I turn it off at night. If I take the phone out of my pocket and put it on the kitchen table and leave it there, it will drain in a few hours. Nothing running in the background. I'm really at a loss. I'm an electrical engineer and see weird things all of the time that I can generally figure out, but this has got me stumped!

I think this is an OS issue and hopefully Microsoft or Nokia will come up with a fix.
