Battery just went to hell? .63 update the culprit?

So my battery literally drained 50% last night in like 20 minutes...didn't think anything of it until this morning when it drained 75% in less than an hour. I had not installed anything or tweaked any settings. So I check the phone update and .63 is in the dreaded downloading update 0% phase. I Have let it sit for a few hours and its not downloading. Turned on wifi, soft reset twice....

What sucks now is the store updates (19 of them) won't download either. I am trying to get the windows insider update so I can turn that off.

Any ideas?

My phone has been great with the battery since I got it, and this am for the first time, I am seeing my phone drain quickly, and it is running warm just sitting idle. I updated to 63 the other day and updated the firmware yesterday. I also got app updates as well yesterday, so not sure what the culprit is. If anything, I suspect the firmware or app updates, as I did not notice any change in battery performance after upgrading to 63.

I figured out my issue. My phone was running very warm and draining extremely fast, and I thought it might be the new firmware or OS. It was draining so fast that it was draining in my car faster than my car could charge it. I noticed that the messaging and skype app was using 20% of the battery. I set it to not be allowed to run in the background and the phone cooled down and went back to normal battery drain. There may have been an update to that app this week, and that was probably the issue. Edge shows to be the other big user, but I cannot figure out how to prevent it from running in the background. There is no setting for Edge on my phone. But I am back to a battery that should easily last a whole day now.

Today morning i woke up and realized my 950XL was fully drained out. How could this happen when it was charged 100% before i slept?
I looked at the battery usage and realized that it was the lock screen that affected the usage. Infact i had the phone connected to the wall charger the whole night with the power off. Another day i had done the same and realised that the lock screen randomly comes on and searches via windows hello. I am assuming that for some reason with the wall charger plugged in, the phone wakes up. Seems like a lock screen bug to me.
Anyone else experience this?

maybe your phone has corrupted sectors in internal storage. mine had similar problem before. it could see the update but couldn't download it. or could download it but couldn't install it. finally I solved the problem by resetting the phone by hardware keys combination method. please be noticed that it is resetting by the hardware keys combination method, not in the settings app and not via the windows device recovery tool.

You will get them but without notification and no tile. You have to open message app to check for messages. Some how I has turned this of on my 830 and didn't know why I didn't get any notifications turning on background service solved it after a tip from this forum

i have the lumia 950 running .29 software and with windows hello on and its drains life 2% overnight and around 40% on a full day of use. as for the update you guys all need to go into settings-> storage then save locations change the downloads location to this device instead of sd card. you need to have a minimum of 4gb free space on the selected storage. updates use space whilst downloading after installing it's no longer required. this is the cause of your 0% download and the draining battery.

btw if your phones have a battery rating of 3000mAh or anywhere near it should give you 1 and a half days of normal use. my 1320(3400 mAh) 2 full days playing games, downloading, etc. if it isnt then something is taking up battery life.

Ok, set my messaging app to allow it to run in the background again, and whatever was getting stuck running with it went away. My phone is back to normal, running cool with normal drain... very strange bug. Restarting the phone had not made any difference. Just not allowing messaging to run in the background and then the next day setting it back and I am back to normal. This has been the only time I have had an issue with it running warm and draining fast since I got it in November. How knows what happened..but happy again.
