Battery life span has dropped

Although my signature says I am a Samsung Omnia 7 owner/user these days I mostly use a Nokia Lumia 820. I have experienced over the last week that the battery is drained more quickly than previously. For example this morning my phone should have been fully charged after more than 12 hours of being charged but it showed only 72 %. About half an hour later, without having used the phone for anything, another check revealed 26 %. It has been charged during the day and once again, after having downloaded and installed the new app updates from Nokia including Here Drive + Beta, is back to being charged. It has been suggested to me that background apps and positioning services like GPS, drain the battery and should be turned off when not in use. But I have turned positioning off. Could an app that requires positioning be individually turned off? And if it is not the positioning what else could be tested or turned off for a better battery life span?

The positioning should not be the problem. I have wifi, pos and 3g turned on all the time and get to something like 18h with normal use(email, sms, internet, music, games).

Your mentioned battery drain is not normal. If you ever get the feeling the drain is higher than normal restart your phone. I think there is a problem with a program or driver. I notice the problems my self sometimes. Batterydrain during idle like during a skype video call.
Some programs seems to don't pause correctly. My only advice is to really close all apps by pressing the back button multiple times.

I would be really pleased with the battery life of the 820 but the random high battery drains make it a unpredictable thing.
