I have had the TP2 for almost a week now and I have learned a few things so I want to start with a little information for those of you who are hating the battery life on this PPC. First a little history the PPC 6700 also an HTC device I know some of you think the 6700 was made by UT Strarcom I say NANA! It was manufactured by HTC then modded by UT to work on the US networks. That PPC had this unusual issue with phone cases that have large magnets seams that HTC & UT decided to go with magnets that signal the PPC to wake up when the sliding QWERTY is opened. Listen up people they have done the same or something similar to this PPC. The TP2 will wake up in the case if you are using a case with large magnets. I know this because I purchased this case from Best Buy:

Take a look people if you have this case your PPC is waking up in the case and killing your battery life.

That said I am getting great battery life on my TP2. I came to the TP2 from the TP if you want a device with bad battery life try that one. I went 8 hours yesterday with out charging on my TP2 I would have gone through 3 batteries on my TP so for me an avid WM user I think this PPC has the best battery life of any of the PPC I have had. Check my sig I have had a lot of different PPC's.

People listen to what I am telling you this is not a BB this is a PPC it can do many things that other devices cant. It is heavy on battery that's the way it is. Try some of the battery tricks going around if you need more battery life. If you want or need a WinMo device the battery life on this one is IMHO battery than most.

UPDATE
Problem solved thanks to CovKid66 over at PPCGeeks. You can read the post HERE. I have added the cab files to this post. I used the DisableSlideWakeup.cab and have used the case shown above all day with no issues. Thanks again CovKid66 for the cab files.

I never would have thought that a case could cause battery drain. I have a case, not like yours, but it also has a magnet that keeps it close. (*Right in the dead center and that sucks!*) I'll probably purchase a case that snaps closed with the button and see if this helps out any. My phone is in my case all day, until I get home from work, so this would be interesting to see. Thanks again.

I remember someone saying that you can disable the 'wake up' on sliding open the keyboard to prevent the magnet from turning on the TP2, and therefore averting this potential source battery drain.

First smartphone

To be honest this is my first "smart" phone. I mainly use it for internet and hopefully a GPS when I get around to downloading an app for it. So far I've been able to get a day of use with the battery with moderate to heavy use, like using the internet and watching stuff on it so the backlight is on a lot.

So far so good however I might just get the extended battery if I could ever get one from Verizon, they are all sold out. But for now I see the battery life as acceptable because I am using the phone a lot.

Interesting. Are you sure it's the keyboard? My TP wakes up when the stylus is removed, and that seems to be held in place with a magnet. I'm not sure if it makes a difference, unless this feature can be disabled.

I bought a new HTC case the other week, which looks nice, but has velcro to hold it shut rather than a magnetic catch. I thought this made it seemed cheap, but maybe there is a reason... :)

I've had no problems with the phone waking up in my case, unless it bumps the button on top. My case uses magnets. I think the fit is just a little too snug and sometimes the button gets pressed when taking the phone in and out.
As far as battery life, not near as long as my q9c with extended life battery standard. I have already ordered a second battery and docking station off of ebay for this reason. An extended life battery worked on the q9c feel wise, it would make the tp2 unbalanced.

I got the NiteIze case found here: http://store.wmexperts.com/nite-ize-executive--leather-side-case/4A120A5442.htm . Magnetic clasp, but the Touch Pro 2/Tilt 2 issue seems to come from a strong magnet coming near the bottom USB port. If I slide the phone forward as I'm removing it, I can wake up the phone. Otherwise, I get to hit the Tilt 2's top button to wake it up when I need to. And, despite the fact that this is a relatively inexpensive case, it's very professional looking.

From what I gathered on a different post about magnets in cases waking up the phone, has it been confirmed that only magnets on a case toward the bottom third of the phone will wake it up, while center magnets on a case flap seem to be okay? I am wondering about the case Verizon just sold me along with my new TP2.
