Best way to setup new phone

So I have a new Lumia 950XL on the way and I was wondering what the best way would be for me to set this thing up. It seems people suggest starting without linking it to my MS account. So does that mean, I turn it on, don't link it and just update it via WIFI until all updates are done and then link my account? Was hoping someone could flesh that out for me a little more and give a quick step by step so I have a decent experience on it. Thanks to anyone who reads and can help.

It's not the linking to the Microsoft Account, it's the restoring from backup.

Sign in on Setup and decline to use a backup. Start from scratch.
