All I can do now is translate and QR code. It doesn't seem to scan covers or even barcodes anymore. Anyone notice this? Same on 8.1 and 8. Maybe that's why they removed Bing Vision.

Can you still scan barcodes or look up book/cd/dvd covers? I can only scan QR codes or text but nothing else... Doesn't seem to have Microsoft Tag support anymore either.

I scanned several barcodes successfully last week. I'm on L520 8.1DP.

8.1 with the Cyan update has reduced the Bing Vision functionality to just QR scanning. The main page article states that clearly.

All I tested was scanning a regular barcode. DVD scanning and other forms are just not needed. First, If you can see the title, just tell Cortana to find said name. Also, who uses disks anymore? This is the 21st century, it's all about downloads!!

Disks are still used. Even now. The thing to understand is that not every place in the world has a blazing internet speed and digital download of several GBs of data takes too long. Physical copies are a better alternative for those situations.

It isn't so much the ability to scan DVDs, but the ability to scan products. I would have loved to see this move forward, instead of backwards. The reason this got brought up is because of the Amazon Fire Phone's ability. My family being mainly WP users, were like "oh we've had similar functionality for a long time" *whip out phone to demo* *terribly embarrassed at the fact we can't even scan barcodes anymore* The real usefulness is when you're out shopping and you want to compare the price to other stores really quick.
