Hi guys,

I had a lot of great feedback on the Gun Frenzy development blog that I think was critical in making it a decent game. I'd like to get the same benefit for my next game, a turn-based RPG tentatively called "Demon's Bane". The story is still taking shape but essentially involves a demon lord that is defeated in battle retreating into an ancient, ruined city and being followed by a band of heroes who are tying to finish him off. Players will form a band of 6 warriors from a choice of 18 varied character classes and will venture through a rich, 3D environment and battle enemies in their hunt for the demon. Character classes are still being finalized but so far include:

- Storm mage (human)
- Wood elf ranger (elf)
- Dark elf assassin (elf)
- Silver Elf Archer (elf)
- Paladin (might be elf or human ... not yet decided)
- Illusionist (human)
- Fire Mage / Pyromancer (human)
- Stone Priest (dwarf)
- Minotaur Warrior
- Orc Berserker
- Half Giant Barbarian
- Dark elf witch / necromancer (elf)
- Centaur Lancer / Archer
- Halberdier (human)

Remaining classes are still to be decided ... may not go as far as 18. Will see how it goes. Some work in progress screenshots. Will try to have an alpha version for playtesting some time in the next two weeks. I expect to support both 512MB RAM and higher devices as well as Windows RT and Windows 8 tablets / desktops / laptops. If you would like to playtest, please reply to this thread and PM me your Microsoft ID.

Character selection screen (still very much work in progress) showing the Minotaur warrior class:

A few screens of a battle level. Currently only the first 5 levels are built but they do link together in a reasonably cohesive manner to tell a story. You can see it's a hex-based game. Player moves all of his warriors and then the AI moves / attacks with his. The first level has the 6 mighty heroes face off against a lone Rat-man warrior with a blunderbuss.

You can also zoom in and pan the camera around your selected warrior to really appreciate the detail of each character model. Here you can see just how massive the Minotaur character class is compared to a basic warrior. However, there are going to be monsters in the game that make even the Minotaur or Half Giant characters look tiny.

So again, please post here and let me know if you'd like to sign up for beta testing.

*drools* WANT! :D I've witnessed Gun Frenzy evolve from a really good to an awesome game. And it has already shown your ability to create a dense, dark and exciting atmosphere. Since I'm more of an RPG than a shooter guy, I can't wait to get my fingers on Demon's Bane. Really looking forward to it.

Cool ... building the first WP8 version of the game now. I think it should be playable on the phone but I suspect some of the user interface items will need to be redesigned as they currently are activated by right clicks on the mouse. So I'll have to recode those. However, best way to do it is just try an alpha and see how it goes ... much better than waiting until the end and then realizing you have to change all kinds of things to port it to the phone or tablet.

Also, I forgot one of the already made character classes ... the Half Elf Priestess. I'm realizing there are a lot of Elves ... but I do like Elves, so why not?

Also, I finally figured out how to record gameplay video so I'll try to post up a link to a youtube video of the game in motion as soon as possible.

is it an universal app? Anyway, the game look great, can i join the beta test? i sent my email live to your profile.

Managed to do the first build to my 920 and it crashed on the party creation scene. I'm guessing a memory issue which doesn't surprise me as I hadn't yet compressed any of the textures. Will keep tinkering with it and will update you guys once I've got a version that can actually play through the first five levels without crashing.

Quick update ... managed to get the game working on my Lumia 920 with the initial phase of optimizations (texture compression and use of mobile-friendly shaders). Runs surprisingly smoothly actually so I have good hopes for this one.

Controls need some work though. Many of the functions aren't working as I expected ... so I have to remap the commands that were linked to the right mouse click on the desktop version to something else. Also scrolling around the screen is not as easy as I thought it would be ... so I'll have to fix that. Most of the icons are also way too small for a phone ... so will need to make them bigger. Basically a lot of work needed on the GUI. I'll try to post a quick video tomorrow of the first level running on my 920.

Hey guys .... quick video of the first version running on my broken Lumia 920.

Working on tweaks and optimizations now .... you can see it runs smooth with even minimal optimizations but there are obviously lots to fix. Working on GUI and then will do some more optimizations and then should have a playable version for whoever wants to start testing it and provide feedback.

Made some more updates since posting this video .... got "hold and drag" to move the screen around working as well as pinch to zoom / unpinch to zoom out. Also changed it so that a double click activates an action rather than a single click ... much easier to use on mobile with a touch screen now. Also made the ability buttons much bigger and easier to see.

i want to try this can i get it for beta/alpha testing ?????
just sent u my maid id

I think I've got a version that is worth sending out for Alpha testing. I'm curious to know performance on 512MB devices, in particular. Everything is still in very rough shape but I think the first 4 levels are actually playable. Will publish to the store today and send out email links to testers once it's approved.

Do you have my MS account details already? In not sure if I've already given them.
