I just purchased the red 920 and the camera button and the app on the home screen doesn't start the camera.
I tried a power down and a soft reset but no luck. Any suggestions besides returning it which I might do tonight.

Thanks for your comments.

Press and hold the camera button for more than 2 seconds until your phone vibrates.
Now you should see the camera app/viewfinder.

Reset your phone, I had a similar issue on my first 920. After resetting the device it seemed to work. I returned it cause i wasn't sure if it would happen again. I got another and haven't had a problem since. Good luck the phone is fantastic, all new phones have glitches and issues.

Update: The camera button and app stopped working again this afternoon. I restarted the phone instead of a reset and it's working again.

Do you think I should exchange it or might this be an sporadic OS problem?

Judging from my experience, I would say exchange. Personally, I have not experienced this in over two weeks of use with the phone. I think it's very possible that you have a defective unit.

I had the same problem with mine along with about four lock ups in a week so I returned my handset after 7 days of ownership.

I have this problem and I have a Samsung Ativ S. I'm 90% sure that it is a Software Issue. My Camera stopped working ever since my phone updated. The Samsung Ativ S camera works in my local stores display (Demo Phone), which is an outdated version of Windows 8 (Cant remember the details, but long story short, my phone was a newer firmware). This convinced me that the update "Fixed" some problems, but introduced some New problems that I hope Microsoft and/or Samsung are working on. A smart phone without a camera is not a smartphone.

P.S. I also got my phone fully replaced. Same problem. Same firmware (updated version compared to the Demo Phone). The only way I could be wrong about this is if the two phones I've had were both damaged units. Even so, thats just a little ridiculus.

Further Info:
OS Verion: 8.0.10211.204
Firmware revision number: 2212.12.11.5
Hardware revision number: 15.3.1.0
Radio hardware version: 0.0.0.0
Bootloader version: 12.11.15.14
Chip SOC version: 1.5.32

Has anybody found the way to fix this issue? I already reset my phone twice and the camera is still not working. It was working fine before but all of a sudden it is just black and the options at the bottom of the screen are all grayed out. My phone is out of warranty.
