camera phones generally, the 822 specifically

I have found the camera phone on the 822 to be ok, but nothing terrific. I get file sizes in the 250-400 k range, as compared to my point and shoot 1 mb and greater. Treating file size as a marker for quality (and recognizing that file size as a marker is not entirely fair), it seems to me that maybe the death of the point and shoot digital camera is not yet imminent. On the other hand, maybe I don't have it set correctly. Any thoughts?

Since people upload photos from their smartphones to Facebook/Instagram etc. a lower file size is very important. I would say the death of point and shoot is definitely imminent.

Do you plan to take photos of an event? Take your DSLR with you.
You don't plan to take photos. Well, use your Lumia 1020 just in case.

There is simply no use-case in between imho.

I'm guessing that you're looking at the image files automatically uploaded to SkyDrive? The actual images on my 822 are 2.5 to 3.5MB in size. They are downsized substantially when uploaded to SkyDrive.
