I just want to ask. How can i take a good photo behind a bright background
eg at the beach. Everytime i try the people in the photo are just dark. I have tried tinkering with the settings but im just not getting it.
any suggestions would be appreciated

Try using the flash with daylight back lit scenes or set the shutter speed at 1/60 and the ISO to 1600 then experiment from there.
 
where can i find the daylight backlit scenes?

That isn't a setting sorry for the confusion.

To take a picture of a subject that is lit in the background by sunlight such as the beach.
Reduce shutter speed to a slower setting such as 1\60th of a second.
Then increase ISO which would be sensitivity to light by increasing that setting to a higher number such as 1600.
Also enabling the flash (forced on) will help to light subjects who appear dark due to heavy back-lighting.

Use these settings as a starting point.
