Question about Wi-Fi Networking and Battery Saver

I'm trying to extend battery life.

According to Lumia Help & Tips, "use Wi-Fi instead of cellular data." Makes perfect sense.

The next sentence they say, "stop your phone scanning for available wireless networks." They recommend to "switch Wi-Fi networking to off."

Would make better sense if one could switch Wi-Fi networking off while the phone keeps on using one familiar/home Wi-Fi network without scanning for others.

Possible?

The info not clear on use and don't use ! it really should say when your on the move turn of wifi to stop it checking for wifi hot spot to save on battery. When your at home you can leave it on to save your cellular data. But your own judgment is correct now.

Your phone will not scan for other WiFi networks as long as it is connected to a dedicated network, e.g. your home WiFi router. So as long as your phone is within the range of your home WiFi router, your phone should be fine. But as soon as you leave that range, e.g. when you leave home, your phone will be disconnected from your WiFi and "will start scanning for available networks" - it would be best to turn WiFi networking off at that point to prevent it from "scanning".

Re: Question about Wi-Fi Networking and Battery Saver

What do can do is turn Wi-Fi off until you get to one of your favorite locations, then have it turn back on by itself automatically. I haven't found a way yet to turn it off automatically as soon as you leave said favorite location.
