Can anyone suggest the best way to learn about the capabilities and shortcomings of windows phone?
I would be willing to spend a few hundred dollars to buy a device to try (T-Mobile).
I'm a future likely Blackberry refugee, former webOS refugee, and I don't like android or iOS.
Any direction for a crash course on learning about windows phone would be great.

https://insider.windows.com/ is also good to learn more. I loved WebOS, but could only tolerate CyanogenMod; vanilla android and iOS just aren't for me. Get a phone, you'll like it

You could pick up a low to midrange model for a lot less than a hundred bucks from Walmart, just to try it out. Also, most carriers have a return policy (AT&T is 14 days). If you don't like it, return it and get something else.

Thanks Everyone. I'll read up from the links, and see if it might be for me.

You forgot to mention that you will have to pay a restocking fee with AT&T if you exchange for something other than the exact same model and make.

Ok so don't buy it from a carrier, you can still get the low-end phones for under $100 and have a good/decent experience with it :D

I will definitely do that, assuming I get one to try. Been reading about windows phone.

What I'm not sure about is how different the experience might be between 8.1 and 10 or if 10 is a must to experience it.

Well 10 is the next evolution :) Tho it would be nice to get your take on both 8.1 and 10. However 10 isn't a finished product just yet. The official push will happen in december

Re: Can anyone suggest way to learn about windows phone

Hello,

Well, I purchsed a Lumia 640 for $79.
I have to admit that it feels very foreign to me and apparently everything requires me to sign in to Microsoft accounts multiple times.
Will have to keep playing around with it.

Weird.. this should only be needed once, during setup

Re: Can anyone suggest way to learn about windows phone

Hello,

I did have a Microsoft account and used it when initially prompted which seemed to work, but it prompted me again several times. I really can't explain why, but today I did not have any additional prompts.

Other initial reactions:
I really am not very fond of the keyboard thus far.
Emails with graphical elements don't display properly.
Email interface is a bit cumbersome compared to blackberry.

I'm sure that working with it for a while I'd get used to most of the interface differences. I think I could get used to the tiles and set up to work for me.

I'm sure there a lot of details that I'm just not catching.
