Can I stop Lumia 720 data drain?

I recently bought a Lumia 720 and noticed that the phone uses data without me using the phone. Sometimes in a matter of 10 minutes it could use about 5MB of data. So I always keep "Data Connection" off to stop the data drain. Is there a way I can stop phone using data automatically? If it helps, I have configured a "live.com" email account and not sure if it is the cause. Please help.

you can either kill your background tasks or you can change your connection to 2g

The best you can do is stop syncing unwanted stuff, increasing sync time and blocking background tasks.

I killed all the background tasks and it fixed my problem. Now I can get the maximum benefit of the data bundle allocated for me. Thanks guys!!!
