Can someone explain why a phone with 700mb free won't install a 190mb app?

Phone is a Huawei W1 recently updated to gdr3, app is Cbeebies playtime.

Had assumed that the new storage space manager would have put an end to these issues... Will be disappointed if it hasn't!

Maybe there are additional files that are downloaded over those 190 MBs

My friend.
When you install an app on your phone, it has data.
For example a game is 100 Mb , you install it and after installing it become about 300 Mb.

Yes, that's what I was trying to say...

It's like on The Computer.
190mb is The program's installer(like .exe)
If The program itself(when installed) ocuppies 520mb, The total Space u need to install is 520+190=710mb.
And sometimes, after installed, it needs more space to download data like some games(Minion Rush) and programs(translator, maps)

Well after deleting a couple of games to get over 850MB free, the app installed. And yet I still have 400MB left on the phone.

Rather late to suggest it but wouldn't it make more sense for the apps to also state how much free space they need to install as well as the size of the initial download?

Plus installing an app takes more than the app size. Space is taken by the app file that is download to install plus what ever the app uses including its data. If you have an SD card, you can save the download amount by saving the file from the store on your SD card and installing it from there.
