Honestly, I try not to complain much. I try to take things I think are bad and make them better, rather than just whine about them. Can we start having a public forum to address issues we have with certain aspects of the site?

For me personally, 99% of it is fine, but there's one fact that bugs me, and when I asked in general about the issue without citing WPCentral on Reddit, I got a lot of agreements. Specifically, Paul Acevedo's terribly unprofessional writing. Even more specifically, whenever a Windows Phone game has a movie tie in, he has to give his own, unasked for critique of the movie as if it's complete fact. He's done this with The Dark Knight Rises app, Temple Run Brave Edition, and now finally Angry Birds Rio. In this final post, he brought up Ice Age when it literally had nothing to do with the app he was reporting on. He's defended himself by saying his opinion is what makes his writing have voice, but here's the thing, the way he words it he passes his opinion off as the globally accepted truth. He's complained about Bane in TDKR, called Brave "The not-too-good Pixar movie" and now randomly bringing up Ice Age when he didn't actually have a complaint about Rio, but assumed everyone forgot about the movie.

Personally, I agree with most of his opinions. I didn't think Brave was great, I was disappointed by TDKR and Rio was very forgettable. This isn't the point though. The point is:

THIS ISN'T A MOVIE REVIEW WEBSITE.

It's a website for Windows and Windows Phone news and that's what I come here to get. People can tell me "then just don't read Paul's posts", but why should I have to go search for a story that I want to know about on some other site, just because a writer on my preferred site is clearly so biased and unprofessional.

Imagine if you had to listen to the news you wanted about politics given on a mostly balanced site, but with one writer who is obviously incredibly biased and says things that are completely irrelevant. e.g. "This just in: Boston bombers (who never would've been able to bomb Boston if Mitt Romney had won because Obama's a soft commie terrorist sympathizer) have two parents." or "Stock market goes down, probably because of those greedy Conservative Republicans who just love money are always eager to add another Zero to the paycheck, for the third day." Can you imagine how terrible that would be? You're trying to get news about current events, not some random schmuck's political opinion. That's how I feel. I want level headed reporting from one of the largest Windows Phone communities out there, yet I have to deal with some wannabe Ebert Roper adding his critique into the post.

Heck, even the site I specifically go to for movie news, rumors and opinions still says "I'm not too personally excited for this movie, but what do you think?" That's their job to talk about the movies they do and don't want to see, and even they don't come out and say "Michael Bay's Train-Wreck-of-a-Franchise Transformers is Getting a Fourth Installment." They "Transformers 4 announced: Megabloopatron Primus 3D to Make an Appearance?" and conclude the article with "The first three movies haven't impressed me, and I'm not too hopeful about this new villain Bloopatron 3D, but we''ll have to wait till the first trailer".

Paul Acevedo doesn't do that. He states his opinions as facts, and mocks those that disagree with him in his following articles! I really have lost my patience for this, and I really want to see if anyone else feels this way and agrees. I enjoy reading 99% of the content on WPCentral, good or bad news. What I don't enjoy, is reading a game announcement, not even a review of the game, and suddenly having to be switched into "Movie Rating Night at Paul's".

So please, forum readers/posters of WPCentral, and those of you who saw my earlier thread on Reddit on r/windowsphone, please let me know how you feel on this topic. Whether you agree/disagree/qualify etc. And please,WPCentral Senior Editors and Editors in Chiefs and all the rest of you working at Mobile Nations, tell Paul Acevedo to keep his movie reviews to his blog, and leave it off his Windows Phone reporting. I don't want him fired, I just want him to stop being an unprofessional writer.

I like WPCentral. I like the posts. I like the forums. Please don't make me leave WPCentral like I left that crappy, crappy website Gizmodo. I don't want to leave, but just like I won't read Fox or MSNBC, I'm not going to continue reading WPCentral if this type of bad writing keeps up. To the rest of the writers, great job, I love reading your pieces.

To Paul, don't be immature again and delete something I wrote, you can be a bigger man than that.

Thank you, and this concludes the pilot (and hopefully season finale) of WPCentral complaints.

P.S. I also posted this to Site News, Feedback, Help forum as well, but I figured it'd be seen more here.

Re: Can We Get a Public Complaints Forum?

Everybody wants to be like MG. But I agree with you about limiting the dialog to technical issues and leave the political for blogs whose sole existence is to publish that kind of talk.

Re: Can We Get a Public Complaints Forum?

I don't think of this site as 100% professional - some articles are serious, some are fun, some are more of a tease, while others are educational. I don't think they all necessarily need to be just-the-facts-jack. If the author of an article wants to put his/her personal twist on it, so be it. Maybe when we look at life too seriously and too often, we lose the ability to see the fun side of things. Worst case, do as others do when they read an article that they find annoying - move on?

I don't mind a personal complaint or wish-list forum though - that could come in handy. Hopefully the site will not react on every neg that they receive; but instead make rational and logical decisions.

EDIT: Well, maybe not a new forum...just use this one since it includes 'Feedback.'

Re: Can We Get a Public Complaints Forum?

Seems it would be easier to not read his articles than make a giant rant thread about it. 30 paragraphs later and we finally get your problem, somebody deleted something of yours and your feelings are hurt. Wow.

I'm going to go ahead and give this movie two thumbs down.

I think it might be better to just say this in an email to the WPCentral than in a post (if your reasoning is to either get him to change his riding style or get him kicked off the site). Honestly, I think you are getting a little crazy writing something this long about one writer's style. Almost sounds like you have something personal against him.

Also, creating the same thread in multiple parts of the same forum is generally frowned upon. Just a thought...

No actually, my comment was deleted maybe after the tenth reply or so of his. I could care less. What I'm tired of is me trying to read an article about a new game that will be released and suddenly having to deal with his movie review, which I didn't ask for, expect to read, or want to read. I added the P.S. To call out that he's deleted my comments before. That was an afterthought.
Considering how 1) it wasn't thirty paragraphs and
2) I addressed the fact that I shouldn't have to google the news to read it from another site because he's a bad writer. His writing should be on par with everyone else's not significantly worse.

I don't even believe you read it.

I only did this because it's the fourth time I believe now and I'm sick of it. i already tried speaking directly to him, and that didn't work, so I felt an email would just get ignored.

Neither do I. But I do think of it as fairly unbiased(for a Windows Phone site). Geektyrant is an example of a casual site. There however, the writers add their opinion at the very end and make it clear that other people might disagree. Paul doesn't do that, and he's the only writer that doesn't do that at WPCentral. I'd prefer not to have to find news on certain articles from other sites simply because he can't resist making a snide comment about a movie in his report on the announcement of a game. I don't have anything against writer's voice, in fact I appreciate it. I don't however, appreciate it when the voice is snobby and derogatory on irrelevant subjects to the article.

You should demand your money back.

Pretty sure it's "couldn't care less".

I, personally, enjoy his articles. Cookie cutter reviews are boring.

Yes, my mistake, it is couldn't care less.
This isn't a review though. This is an announcement of a game. He mocks people that disagree with him *in his articles*. The other reviews on this site are great. His articles are bad, and all I'm asking is that he be held to a higher standard because some of the sites readers are tired of being forced to either read his condescending opinions presented as facts, or go elsewhere for Windows Phone games news.

Try The Verge for professional, unbiased WP news, much better and no unrelated movie references (just pure MS hate but at least its professional).

yeah but they only really report on the "big" news and it ends up going to the other sites eventually. Smaller news like game releases and app updates I usually go to WPCentral or WMPoweruser

Many people would not use the verge and professional and unbiased in the same sentence.

At the end of the day Paul is not a full time writer, I personally enjoy his writing style in the same way I enjoy Sam's wit.
Whilst I am sure Paul has taken your rather fiercely worded complaint to heart I would suggest that it his articles have been very popular for the site and I certainly wouldn't encourage him to change the content.
If you are not happy with his articles, please simply do not read them or seek your gaming news elsewhere.

Of course I'm just the developer, giving my 2 cents, you are entirely welcome to disregard my comments just as any article here

The Verge? They're biased, and not just towards MS. They delve into politics.now even, and lean hard left with how they report and which stories they report on.

Wow -- you really have anger issues, you are addicted to moaning or you have a personal grudge against him?

Chill out before you blow a gasket -- end of the day if you don't like what the guys writing, don't read it. Here, in the UK I can't stand some stories that are written on the Daily Sun Newspaper website (part of the Murdoch empire). Therefore, I skip the stories that I think are biased.

I really can't believe how disrespectful you have been to the writer. For all you know he could be writing for free. Either way your comments were out of order -- you should give your head a shake, and publicly apologies to the man.

I'm pretty sure my head is perfectly level, but no I'm not going to apologize for his bad writing.

Arrogance doesn't get you nowhere in life, and I don't mean material wise -- maybe your friends will show you sympathy, I forgot, if you had friends you wouldn't be on here ranting like a lunatic. Bye mate
