Well I am completely in different situation. Call me Windows Lover since birth and Linux/Unix Hater. I am all Windows. So when Microsoft first announced Windows Phone I was excited. I am following Windows Phone since WP7. Everyday checking WPCentral and other website to know whats new. I loved their fresh Ux approach - Metro design. But I always felt like...well this feature is yet to come, that feature is yet to come. This kept continuing. Firstly there was app gap. Which was like to get filled, MS announced One Windows. Now that too had app-gap which is also filling up. Then 2 years ago, I had to bought a new phone. That time...all these issues were there. Being Windows (on PC) user for more than a decade, I wanted no compromise OS. Windows Phone wasnt such two years ago and I had to buy new phone anyway. So I have to resort to Android. I bought the best one at that time - Nexus 6. It is still THE beast. Android flies on this piece. Now that its almost 2 years old...I may think of new phone. But obviously I will not buy Android as I feel my Nexus 6 will handle any Android put to it well at least 2-3 more years. I will like to have WIndows. Also, my uncle wants fresh air from Android. He wants budget Windows phone.

  • To be honest I find there is no worth budget Windows Phone in Indian Market. In 10000INR, we can get at least 2GB RAM Android (please keep aside opinion that WIndows does not require 2 GB RAM). No WIndows Phone under 10000INR come with 2 GB RAM
  • I still feel OS is not full fledged. I use certain apps on my Android. And I will like to know if there are any equally powerful alternatives with below features available on Windows phone.
    1. ES Explorer. (Best file explorer am using on Android for 2+ years) Some standout feature: Chromecast extension, assign genstures to routine tasks (my favorite)
    2. So many apps supporting chromecast. Best are Localcast which can cast local video. Videostream which can control casting videos from my Windows laptop. Web Video Cast to cast any web video.
    3. LG TV Remote - I feel this will never come to WIndows. Allows me to control TV over WiFi.
    4. Google Keep - No I will not use OneNote...I tried its not bad, its just that Google Keep is more cleaner. I feel this will never come to WIndows Phone
    5. Bunch of banking apps not yet landed on Windows phone. :\
    6. MX Player - allows switching between software/hardware accleration, searches subtitles on its own on web, downloads it and overlays it on video, zooming videos. May be equivalent is already there. Any suggestion?
    7. Absolute must MoonReader+ - please check its functionalities. It allows underlining, highlighting with different colors, adding note to all type of files epub, pdf, chm. Above all it brings all these annotations in singel scrollable list. Which I can filter by color of highlight, underlying. Or show just notes. Plus it can backup this to cloud so all my annotations across books will stay backed up. Of course not to mention fetching coverpages and metadata of books is also supported apart from many many other features.
    8. Wabbitemu - This is emulator for powerful Texas Instrument Calculators. I dont feel this will land in Windows Phone.
    9. FolderSync - this is THE cloud syncer. It allows true - windows client like syncing of selective cloud folders to sd card for all most all cloud services. Unfortunately even official cloud apps even on Android doesnt allow such syncing to sd card.
    10. My Scans - awesome feature rich scanner
    11. CPU-Z by CPU ID Using it since Windows XP. Now on Android too. Here is my current Windows 10 lappy specs by the apps cloud: CPU-Z VALIDATOR
    12. Appl Lock
    13. Stack Exchange A home for geek. I dont feel they have brought app to Windows phone. They should.

List can grow, but with so much super useful apps without which I cannot simply live at all...I am doubting if Windows Phone can satisfy my needs. Should I buy one? recommend to my Uncle? (Please dont take this thread as my criticism. I am long fan of Windows phone. You can find that from earlier threads or even just by googling Mahesha999. You should find me speaking all good about Windows/Microsoft. But its just that after so many years of following I dont find Windows phone flying. Though I feel it will eventually. The primary reason for this thread now is my uncle asking me to suggest Windows phone. So now I have to think what should I do. He will eventually come across such app needs. Also no 2GB RAM budget phone is there in market. I have already delayed him for 6 months telling him wait platform is yet to mature. Am also thinking whether in future even I will be satisfied by Windows phone due to some apps like wabbitemu which will never make to Windows phone? ohhh....wabbitemu is there for WIndows for PC. Forgot that.).

(I recall, long ago, may be some 2+ years ago, I created thread here for WIndows Phone listing some huge 30+ benefits over Android simply to help Windows Fanboys here to kill Android bots out there. Can anyone fetch that thread for me if you remember. Somehow I forgot username password for that account. So now I have created new account here. Btw it feels weird when I realise things are not yet turned well for Windows Phone, though that HP Elite X3 looks awesome :'p )

I know buddy that adware stuff already. This is not much annoyance to me as I havent faced it myself. May be on Nexus devices its Opt In toggle as said in this post: ES File Explorer Updated With Super-Shady 'Charging Boost' Adware
On other devices, may be it is automatically enabled. But not on my phone. Besides say whatever...functionality wise ES Explorer is best. Heck it has Chromecast extension too to cast photos, audio, video directly from ES Explorer. Its really really next generation File explorer. Not to say gestures to control action in ES Explorer. That way I usually dig into deep folder with just simple gesture.

I do not think Windows Phone will be able to even remotely meet your needs. Or anything other than Android perhaps.

If you're bent on 2 GB of RAM, go used.

That app is only available for Android mobile devices at this time. There are also desktop Windows and desktop Mac OS versions, but nothing for Windows 10 Mobile or iOS.

If you really don't want to spend much then an unlocked used/refurbished 1520 is what you should buy. The AT&T unlocked variants are selling for as cheap as 150 USD and they run the official W10M a lot better than the lower tier models.
