Can Windows Updates Change my BIOS?

I'm running Win 11 on my Lenovo Flex 15; after the last update, my function keys 'reversed'. I searched and saw others had this same problem. I went into my BIOS and had to 'enable' my Hot Keys, and now they are back to normal. Has Windows Update always had the ability to access and change our BIOS settings?

Not at all... Windows don't change BIOS settings. You never see BIOS upgrade in windows update. Manufacturer Software's can upgrade your BIOS or manually you can download BIOS flash file and install it.

Simply Windows cannot change any BIOS settings by itself.

I once had to update BIOS during Windows 10 upgrade. I flashed it by downloading it from Dell's website.
