Yesterday my laptop running windows 10 started freezing randomly. Everything seems to be normal when suddenly computer doesn't react any more for few minutes, then works perfectly well again. It's quite hard to find the cause. Only thing I have noticed that when it freezes, disk usage is very high. Could this be my cramped desktop (basically no space left) ? I haven't installed or downloaded any torrents lately. This week my laptop was mainly used for heavy browsing and projecting continuosly for hours, some powerpoint and audiocity usage. Also my windows partition is low on space (20GB left). Help ? Any ideas ?

Damonator98! What a name

Thanks, lol :D

And while I was reading the first solution I remembered that I used skype few times this week (signed in for the first time in my laptop) and also I'm using chrome, so this actually might be the solution, I'll try this out and report if it works.

re: Cause of sudden laptop slowdown?? W10

Update: I checked skype, but it had no right to write without me canging anything. Then I dissabled the prefeching in chrome, but it didn't help. Scanned whole computer with AVG and found nothing. The while inspecting resource monitor I noticed office upload center using disk, so I dissabled both, Onedrive and Office upload center, sadly the situation didn't really change. And only after some time I noticed SkypeHost.exe which seemed to be abusing my drive. I had hard time dissabling this process, but in the end it gave up, didn't restart and voila, two full hours without slowdowns :)

Update: Sadly, when laptop woke up after sleep, gliches came back. Therefore the fight with 100% usage continues. This time I decided to open services.msc and start dissabling things (known causes of disk abuse). Here are some screenshots of main abusers... And before you ask, no, there's no virus/trojan/other infections in my laptop (AVG whole pc scan).

Dissabled superfech and skype's auto update, but computer froze once again. Now waiting and looking for something else...

Update: Dissabling superfech and skype didn't really help. Now tried to turn all notifications off, as suggested in reddit.addaad.jpg

Next: Restart and if situation stays the same - dissabling windows update service.

Ugh sad to hear that this is still plaguing you.. Was wondering if the issue would return after a restart. Like I said mine isn't completely gone either; still happens very now and then, but it lasts 30 seconds or so now instead of full on overdrive mode

Re: Cause of sudden laptop slowdown?? W10

Well, had to do some serious work today, dissabled windows update service and after about 10 minutes, guess what happened... Let's just say I just grabbed another laptop and started copying my files to another drive. I'm ready to give up and perform clean install. Well, maybe not if it'll magically fix itself till tommorow evening or some solution'll randomly appear out of blue. Looking at the bright side, I've learned some serious anger management skills over these days :D

Re: Cause of sudden laptop slowdown?? W10

Well I'll just be happy you didn't throw the laptop out of the window :winktongue: not sure that clean install will fix it as it seems to be a w10 bug, but yea at this point it doesn't seem like a bad idea. Do tell us how your adventure progresses

Lol, i forgot :D But if anyone is exploring this topic I'd like to inform you that, yes, fresh install fixes this issue.
