Changing from the Lumia 820 to the Lumia 630 decisions

I currently have the over a year old Lumia 820 that's running the WP 8.1 Developer Preview in Lumia Black, and I've been thinking of changing it for a new one and I was thinking of the high end 1520/930 but realized that I can't afford it just yet because I'm still a student. So now I'm thinking of the Lumia 630.

I could use some opinion here.... to make up my mind

I know that it might be a lot to lose in the specs, but the things that I really hate about my current 820 are the;

-Weak Battery, I don't know if it's the Developer Preview that's draining the battery but right now I have most apps like twitter, Instagram, etc to be not able to run in the background. And I'm using the 2500 mAh MPJ battery but I don't think that there's any differences and with the original battery or the MPJ's, it always overheats even though I never play game and only use it for social media/browsing/chat

-How it feels really bulky and rather heavy in my hand

-The 4.3 screen, yeah I know that in the 630 the .2 is used for the navigation bar but I don't mind it and I don't know why.

-It's getting a little old and the 630 has more upsides in both designs and colors

- Mostly the battery, yeah, the battery, I can't stand having to charge my phone every 6 hours. I mean, I have to charge it three times a day! I used a Lumia 720 before this phone and it could last for two days!

And of course before I make up my mind, I will try to downgrade my phone to the WP 8 first to see if the battery are really drained by the Developer Preview.

And by usage, I mainly use my smartphones for:

-Music (both streaming/offline)
-Messaging, (chat/call/)
-Social media
-No gaming, I hate mobile gaming
-Taking pictures/video for my blog/instagram
-Browsing
-Office and heavy note taking for my job in OneNote

And I see that the Lumia 630 could do good to me in those tasks, but I still need opinions from other WP users!

I feel your phones battery life is pretty abnormal. I know it isn't supposed to be great, but still, I think that's below the window of normalcy.
Have you done a hard reset post update?

With 2500 mAh, you should be getting something better. Huh.

I wouldn't swap to a 630. I would guess then to be around the same size, but I don't know for sure. I'll go look it up later.
But still, I'd take the 720 over the 630.
Especially if camera is a factor.

In terms of design and color, perhaps you could spring for a different shell type or color.

Well, no I haven't tried hard reset because I haven't had all the apps converted into the SD card. But does that usually help?

I'm using the 820 now, the one with the crappy battery life.

I've had the white shell from the Nokia but I want something that's colorful lol.
Are you using the 820 as well?

SD or no, apps are probably going to go bye bye anyway in a hard reset.
Yea, people have seen issues fixed or kinda improved with a hard reset.
Right after the 8.1 update first dropped on the Dev Preview program, my Lumia's battery life fell through the floor (even after a few days) - I think I was charging twice a day at worst but a hard reset helped.
Now, between the updates since and a clean start, it's a lot more normal. Still not where going two days is considerable, but its not as much of a concern.

So yea, make sure your stuff is backed up and give it a try! Be sure to give it a few days to settle, battery life might be terrible first day or so since everything's being setup and whatnot.

I thought there's cyan and other shells too. I could be completely wrong, but I think I remember an orange, rugged shell from a blog post?

I personally have a 920, I was going to get an 820, but my carrier stopped selling them right before. I'm happy with it though.

Ive got an 820 also, running wp8 charging twice a day which is disappointing when you go out for days, i got it when they were released, i knew it was a mid range phone but the fact it had a sd card slot was the selling point for me, but now im thinking of upgrading to the 930, is it a good choice to go from an 820 to the 930 or wait till another one comes out with sd card slot.

You're lucky that yours only need twice a day, mine is thrice and it really is a pain in the ***.

But have you tried the hard reset? Has it worked?

I know, and I too want the 930 and wouldn't mind the lack of sd card capability, heck, I would even get the 925 with a better built-in battery!

Yea, the 920 has a 2000 mAh battery while the 820 has a 1650 mAh pack by default.
Do know there is the chance of a defective battery or something, I've seen tales of people getting warranty replacements.

Was thinking that too but the camera is slightly weaker than the 820's are you using the 625? How's your review about it?

Now I'm thinking of the 925 instead, the price drops greatly in my country.

I don't know of defected battery, because like I said I've turned into the MPJ battery and it just the same. I'm going to try the hard reset first in an hour now, I'll let you know

Hi man, after a day and a half after the hard reset, I think that the battery lasts about 2 or 2.5 hours longer. Still weak, but that's the I can have. It was either the hard reset, or that I push the charging to over 3.5 hours because of the 2.500 battery.

Anyway, thanks man!
