Changing windows live ID without resetting to factory settings

Nope. Reset required. Why is that such a problem?

someone recently had a post here about a way to do that without losing all data, downloads etc on live. But it still required a phone reset.

Unfortunately, I think you also needed an XBox to do it. It all sounded really complicated.
