I needed to charge my DV8P at work and didn't have my charger. I know my Lumia 925 charger won't charge it so I borrowed a charger from a co-worker to give it a shot even though as best I can tell it's only got 1 amp output. I thought my DV8P required 2 amps to charge, yet it's charging. Am I off the mark?

amperage can pretty much be translated to how fast a charger charges a device.
The Venue and other tablets use a lot more power and have larger batteries, so a faster 2 amp charger is recommended.

A lower amperage will still charge it, but won't charge as quickly, or worst case scenario, only slows the drainage of the battery.

TL;DR, higher amp is better, don't worry about your devices, plugging them into a higher amp charger won't harm them, they'll only pull what they need.

Pardon my ignorance, but why won't your 925 charger work for the DV8P?

I have charged my V8P with my Nokia charging brick, and I believe with my Samsung (Focus) charging brick, but I have other bricks that will not light up the charging light on my tablet. I'm guessing the threshold power is about 1 amp.

I have no idea...but when I plug it in the light on my tablet never comes on indicating a charge. I never actually looked to see if it showed it was charging in the system tray, though. Maybe I just didn't look carefully enough? I'll check, but I've tried it a few times. I'll look to see if Windows recognizes it's getting a charge and the light is just not coming on.

I too have used multiple chargers successfully however I never could get the iPad one to work. Something about the pin out on the charger and the OTG port on the Dell.

For whatever it's worth, it's charging now using the phone charger. Don't know why it wouldn't before...maybe I just didn't see the light maybe it wasn't working then, but it works now.
