Hi All

we have heard many people complaining about the lack off apps on our platforms. Why don't we band together and just spam the iTunes and playstore with 1 star comments and tag

"Cause you wont come across to windows 10"

surely it will start driving the average score down and drive the message home.

most of us probably have an account on one or the other

Not everyone who uses a Windows Phone has a spare IPhone or an Android phone just to rate an app one star.

I think that's a horrible idea in more than one way.

Also not sure what this would gain. If I was a developer, I'm not sure I would want to develop for Windows 10 Mobile if the fan base can like that.

I don't have any issues with finding apps I NEED in the Windows Store... But then again, I don't game on my phone or download stupid apps like lightsabers or anything either. My friends with their Android and iOS phones always talk about all the apps they have that are just garbage apps, toys and time wasters. I think the other app stores are just flooded with way too much crap. Hence why they have issues with apps stealing information etc. I use my phone as a phone, but, I also have all the handy things I need. E-mail, PDF viewer, Office, Calendar, Maps and navigation, Groove etc. Don't need anything else.

yeah that's a fair call I guess, complaining in our forums isn't going to help either, I don't think any of the developers troll these posts

the message may have com across a little narcissistic, but I'm sure we could come up with a more diplomatic way of letting them know without sound passive aggressive or desperate and needy

true, I don't think we need 45 different converter apps, or 150 blatant ripoffs of bejeweled or candy crush. but apps that everyone would like and are holding off or not considering switching at all because they are missing, AtBatt has been pulled, ESPN F1 has been pulled, poor facebook, no snapchat ( not that I want it , but hey I'm not a part of the masses ), yet anything good that we do have, Microsoft developers will gladly offload it onto other platforms. Sure its another revenue stream for them, but leaves us loyal supporters behind the 8-ball

I don't think we could possibly achieve anything with that - if they don't want to develop apps for WP that just means that they don't see how would it be profitable for them to make an app for WP and we are not going to change that with spamming...

Given the WM market share, even IF we did that, it would only account for what, 2% of reviews? Not even a blip....

Because I'm not a dirtball crybaby. Punishing a product for not supporting something that is not financially viable is ridiculous. Product ratings are for reviewing the product quality, not turning it into your pity party.

Or maybe, just maybe the company that makes the platform and rakes in billions of dollars worth of profits every quarter can get off their behinds and try making the platform attractive to users and devs alike and grow the marketshare so devs have the proper tools and see the potential sales they can make and make the apps because they want to.

Failing that, I guess we can resort to kidnapping the devs families and holding them till they make Windows apps....

Apps/games should be rated based on the experience they provide not because they don't exist on another platform. This is the silliest thing I ever read. Windows fans are also very bad with giving bad reviews. I constantly see 1 stars because of 1 small thing that upsets them. Even if the rest of the app is great they will give it a 1 star. The store is flooded with this type of stuff. I would never want to develop for windows. Luckily Microsoft hides insider ratings from production users and doesn't let it affect the score if it's low.

don't need one, you can access the store through a browser,

An app has to be downloaded and installed before a review can be left for it. Also, this whole idea is terrible, but not at all surprising coming from the mentality of some posters here.

speaking of apps, has anyone noted the irony of the Snapchat "code" ad annoyingly appearing here frequently on WindowsCentral lately?

Thank you everyone for the roasting. It was a little harsh but just shooting the breeze for ideas....

The community outside of the Windows Phone one often has a dim enough view as it is and you want to upset them even more?

I am often amazed at all the suggestions of how to reduce the app gap on Windows Phone as if they're original and no one else has ever thought of them. If any of them had any merit there obviously wouldn't be an app gap!

My favorite one being where we get Microsoft to just give away millions to developers to make them develop all the missing apps. I think that one might yet be a winner...

Maybe the crazy low-priced Lumia 640 experiment will have an effect. As discussed in another thread, it's very close to a giveaway. That could potentially mean a lot of new activations, which eventually will catch the interest of developers.

Speaking as someone who bought one of these things, I find the experience pretty positive, despite the weak hardware. One way to market something intangible--a user experience--is to give as many people as possible that experience. If Microsoft seriously intends to wait before releasing new handsets, they could do worse than to sink some money into loss leaders like the 640. The app gap, I believe, responds to numbers, and especially to trends. Getting devices into people's hands seems like a reasonable way to try to halt the bleeding while waiting to launch something big.

Don't take it personally, I realize I came off more harshly than I'd like.

I know I've been shot down in varying degrees of elegance. (or lack of)
