Computer speakers sometimes work in windows 10

Ok this is a strange one. I have all my drivers up to date (Realtek High def audio). running windows 10 on a H87-D3H motherboard. when I play a song the audio will work for about a second or 2 and then come back for a second or 2 at the end of the song. Do you think this may be a hardware issue?
