Computer starts with a couple of beeps.

After the beeps nothing happens. If I unplug the external hard drive the computer starts up with a very loud fan noise but then again nothing on the monitor.

Check for loose connections on motherboard. If connections look good, then your computer must have some hardware problem. Just no need to mess with it simply get it check with some hardware expert.

I saw where this could be the small nickel sized battery. Will look into that. Or even the memory sticks.

Ok, cross check all the peripherals thoroughly.

Switched out the memory stick. That fixed the problem.
