Cortana and shortened names

Quick question for everyone....can I use shortened names with Cortana? For instance, when I ask to send someone a text message, I have to say the person's full name. Is it possible to get it to work by just saying the person's first name, nickname, or "my wife?"

Go to 'People', open someone's profile, press on 'Edit', press on the + sign in the name field, scroll down to the bottom 'add Cortana nicknames'.
(The names have to be and sound unique or Cortana will just get confused!)

As daveey mentioned, you can set those up in People. I always say, "Call my wife" or "...my mom" or "...my son" etc. to Cortana without fail.

Additionally, I set up a new Group in People named "My Wife and Kids" then put each of their contacts into that group so that I can ask Cortana to "Text my wife and kids" and she will send a group text to them all...
