Cortana - US to UK

Hi guys. I have a Lumia 920 using Windows 8.1 developer preview and i'm currently living in the UK.

I'm keen to get Cortana and I know i can get it by changing my region settings to US. What i'm wondering is that if I do this and then get it through the developer preview when it finally rolls out to the UK is it going to lose all of my settings and things Cortana remembers about me? Are there any downsides to changing region settings to get it a bit early?

I think the settings and stuff are stored somewhere in your MS account so they should sync to the UK version with no issue. Only downside you would have that I can see by changing region, is losing Cortana until UK release day, but it won't have any affect on whether you get it early or not. Personally, I would wait for an announcement on here before changing regions back - it's at least 3 restarts with an 'update' phase or two where it reconfigures stuff the region and speech, to set everything back to UK.

That doesn't sound too bad.. I'm just impatient and would like it now. If its stored on your Microsoft account that means presumably that if you upgrade your windows phone that it will transfer across all cortana's knowledge?

Should do - I've reset my phone a few times, turned her on and off and Cortana's still picked everything up.

When you said the downside was losing cortana until UK release day, what did u mean by that?

Setting things back to UK from US means you won't be able to access Cortana until she's released over here, or you change the settings back to US.

Just to clarify the position here with Cortana in the UK, it's not coming to Developer Preview phones first, it'll be rolled out to all WP8.1 users at the same time.

EDIT: To re-clarify the position based on Joe's latest Windows Team Blog entry (contrary to my previous expectations), Cortana will appear next week for Developer Preview users only.

I've changed it up from UK to US so I could get it early. Wasn't much bother and I'm enjoying having cortana

With all the news that UK now has Cortana I've switched back to UK after running her for a while...
It doesn't show...
Am I missing something?
I've switched region and language to UK so US is lowest...

Cortana will be available to Developer Preview users next week, at the same time as GDR1 appears for them.

The WPCentral news team did a great job in not really pointing out this detail.

At least UK sports are added....I can now get updates on premier league...

If they add US college sports info, I'll be all set! Please make it so before college football starts next month. Following on Bing Sports app, so I'm assuming the only reason for not adding to Cortana is the voice programming required for proper interaction.
