Country change?

Hey,

I'm a Mac/iOS developer. Recently I decided to get a Windows Phone to maybe develop an app or two for the platform. The phone is great! Slick interface, excellent cloud support.

I've an issue with the country settings, however. I have my Live account set to Australia, but I currently live in the United Kingdom, so I can't register my debit card. I've heard that you can't change the billing country of a Windows Live account, so you should make a new one. Since I tend to be a bit of a nomad (I've lived in 3 countries in the span of one year), I absolutely refuse to create a new account. Xbox Live, Zune, my main email address is all set up under a 5-6 year old hotmail account.

This makes the Windows Phone absolutely unusable for me. I'm half-decided to return it for this very issue. Anyone here care to provide some advice and/or suggestions?

Unfortunately, you cannot change the country you specified when you set up your zune account initially. I know the zune team is aware of this issue, and are thinking about how to handle it- many EU zune users set their accounts up as in the USA to gain marketplace access, and now cannot correct it to their home country even though zune marketplace has now been extended beyond the USA.

i found a work around:

Go out and buy a PRE-PAID Credit Card, ( I suggest a VINILA pre-paid CC because you can go change the address online)

Then what you do is put in your OLD address and or a Random Address from the country you originally set up in ZUNE/Live account. ( on the CC website) then change payment option to the new CARD. And your done!!!

This does not effect you or the people at the Address, because it remains a pre-paid card.

For me this is the worst problem/issue of the entire wp/xbox/live ecosystem. I have (like you and probably thousands outside the US) the same problem, and as far as I know the official stance of Microsoft on this is that it is not possible to change region. It's very moronic and US centric.

yeah it does suck , but like i said they are working on it.

the work around works great!! btw , it just sucks cause u need a pre-paid card and you cant use your actual card.
