Cracked Screen Only Touchscreen Not Working?

My other half bought a Nokia Lumia 530, and before she'd even turned it on she tried prizing the back of with a knife (Derrrrrr) an managed to crack the screen in record time 10seconds after gettin it out the box before it was ever switchd on!!!! Iv never had 1 before but every phone iv cracked a screen on has still worked but this touchscreen isnt working at all an its only a small crack at top of screen, any ideas without replacing the screen? As it was only cheap an im guessin a new screen would probaly cost more to buy an fit than the phone did? I could live wiv the crack if only i could still use it, should this happen? An can it still be used? Help needed? Thanks

Every touchscreen has one point where the digitizer (the touchscreen) has wires coming out of it that connects to the motherboard on the phone. If you crack it there, where the tiny little wires connect, you can completely lose touch on the digitizer. It sounds like that may be unfortunately where your screen cracked. Bing for "Lumia 530 digitizer" to see the cost of a new one.
