I picked up a $30.00 640 to replace my dead 1520 (battery died) and I got it up to build 10586.122 did hard reset and as I am moving in the last step is custom ringtones and notifications (for me anyway).

So I set my ringtones in .m4r format moved over to the ringtone folder via my PC and when I go to sounds to set my tones they don't show up on the drop down menu at all.

Any ideas? Or is this just broke on the current build?

Search in Insider forum, there was a long thread about that

I tried mp3, m4r, and wma transferred from my sd card, it seems every build was different, and it worked.

These recent builds require wma files transferred to ringtone folder using file browser with a pc, I just did it last evening on 10586.122.

OK I will try wma and see if it works. At least now i will have all 3 file types read for next build.

Same with mp3....

Are you saying mp3's work?
I have m4r, mp3, and wma that I made for previous w10m builds, I tried transferring all with file browser and the last two builds, at least, the first two would not work. I also used to copy them to the ringtone folder with folder pro from my sd card, that works, the files are there but the ringtones do not show up when using sounds in settings or editing contacts. They so far, are only showing up when wma files are transferred to the device's ringtone folder using windows explorer on a pc with the phone connected by usb cable.

I got it to work with MP3 and set genre to Ringtone on PC then transfer from PC to Ringtones folder on phone. I now have my ringtones back.

I had done this before on my last phone but when I transferred it over I mistakenly clicked on convert file and that is where it all went wrong.

Yup

I just transferred them to the Ringtones foilder. You have to do it with a PC for some reason as otherwise they don't show on the list. But this was the same as 8.1...for me anyway.
