Customize UI sounds?

Hello,

I find this really weird. My last phone before the Nokia Lumia 920 I' using, and loving, right now, was an iPhone 4. I Had it jailbroken and was able to go through SSH to the exact folders where the default UI sounds (mail, lock, unlock, sms...) are and i was able to replace them for the ones I liked, obviously using the same format of sound file. That was no problem.

I know you can use some custom Ringtones for a couple of customezable apps and notifications, but for me it's not enough. There are come apps that do not allow custom Ringtones. And also I'd like to change the lock and unlock sound that's default, for my own sounds I took from door open/close FX sound on Super Metroid (love those sounds).

Is there a way to modify files in Windows Phone, and find those sound files, as well as certain app files? I know it would implicate some form of Jailbreak, which I have no problem with, as long as it is not too buggy. I don't thing this should be that hard, but I've not yet seen this topic anywhere.

The short answer to this very puzzling question would be.... NO There is no "jailbreaking" windows phones One person had claimed that he did it, but I highly doubt it since there was no proof.. The simple fact is that we just can't edit all the sounds, but keep faith.. If enough people ask for this MS will provide

Actually, partial unlock has been achieved on the 920 and 520, but using JTAG (thus, warranty void), and a lengthy process. The only thing they could do was to edit the registry, change some values (allow apps higher caps, change dev app install amount, read internal memory), but changing the core OS parts is quite impossible at the moment, due to the signatures it uses to verify the validity of the firmware/OS.

You CAN change, however, the default notification sounds, and 8.1 allows you to change the per-app notification sound, even if it's not supported by the app. For that you need to dig deep in the Notifications settings, each app that can post notifications will have its options there, including the custom notification sound.

Do those MP3 show up in the Ringtone selection list? If yes, then the two lists are not connected, if no, there's a problem with your ringtones.

Thing is, it SHOULD be possible as my mother has already set a 7-something second notification sound for her e-mails, which drives me crazy (especially as she's not using Quiet Hours).

I'm talking about other Core stuff, for example the sounds that play when you unlock and lock the phone. Those are not available to customize, but I'm sure, as I did on iPhone before, that those are media files buried in some part of the filesystem and could be replaced by another with the same format. That's all I'm wondering about.

Half of your question was about those

And no, there is NO way of doing that as of now. Maybe a registry trick, to re-write the path the system looks for those sounds, but you'd need to void your warranty for that.

Haha thanks, now I know it is possible. I am trying to get the default facebook message sound from the website, but I guess my mp3 is faulty.
