Debating on getting a 1520 or an Icon/930 help!!!

So here's the back story. I am on Cricket currently, and own a Lumia 630. While I like the 630, I find myself wanting a little more power. Since I am on Cricket I can use an AT&T branded or unlocked 1520, or I could also use an unlocked 930. If I am not mistaken, the Verizon branded Icon does ship unlocked so I could theoretically use that one as well.

My dilemma is that while I love all the specs on the 1520, I'm not sure that I could get used to a phone that size. On the other side, I love the form factor of the Icon/930 but the lack of SD, lack of glance screen, and the supposed overheating issues worry me. So 1520 owners, icon owners, what should I do? And if you have the 1520, how has been dealing with the size been?? If you have the icon, how is the battery life (another issue I've heard about)? Thank you all in advance for your help!!

You can use an Icon, but you will not get LTE.

I'm aware of that, will I still get HSPA though? I'm OK with that since that's what I get on my 630.

I was waiting for the 930 but when I found out it didn't have sd, I went with the 1520. I have a lot of music and like having some movies for flights. The size is only a little difficult to work with, but the screen makes it worth it. Now my old 920 seems so small I can't imagine going back to a smaller screen. Also, the battery life is amazing (2 days w/ heavy use), which is something I wouldn't want to lose going to a smaller phone.

I've been tempted to get a 930 myself. I think it's very attractive and a little more practical size-wise. But I also love my 1520. I'm using it unlocked on T-Mobile, full version (RM-938) with LTE and Qi wireless charging. Not sure I can justify doing without both Glance AND LTE. I mean, it's a clear downgrade, even without considering the lack of microSD support. Only negative thing I have to say about the 1520 is the swipe/tap/scroll bug, which is annoying but manageable. I'd consider the size to be neutral overall when you consider all the pluses and minuses.

I probably would be a bit more open to pulling the trigger on the 930 if I was still on pre-paid getting just H and H+ speeds anyway.

Honestly, the only reservation I have about the 1520 is the size. Other than that, its the perfect phone. I'm leaning towards the 1520, I value SD support too much lol

This is spot on and if you see my previous thread, I asked exactly the same question. I have to say, the 1520 has been brilliant. Yes its a little big for your pocket but you soon forget about that when you playback movies stored on your SD card :grin:
Think of the 1520 as more of a small tablet that can make calls instead of just another phone. Dont even think about it. Get the 1520.

Exactly. I looked at a 1520 and found it was too big for the type of things I want to do with a phone. A lot of time I need to carry it in my jeans pocket and it sticks out the top. As much as I like the phone I realized I would have problems sitting down with it pocketed, and not having a jacket etc. I would have no place to put it. For my typical use it is not convenient.

Coming from an 8X, the 930 is marginally bigger, but has a 1080 5" screen. That seems like a worthwhile upgrade. Here is a size comparison, you can also view the phones layered on top of each other Visual Phone Size Comparison

Short answer:
L1520 is better than the L930 (L1520 = L930 + Glance screen + SD card +extra battery + extra screen size)

Long answer:
While I think L1520 is obviously better, the size makes it a matter of preference. If you think its just impossible to live with L1520 (maybe cos of your pocket size or other factors) then the L930 will be better suited for you.

But for a fact, there isn't one person I have come across who didn't get used to the size of the L1520 in hand, not a single soul I know of.
But well fitting you pocket, again, like I said, is another thing depending on your pocket size and if you keep your phones in your pockets or not.
But as far as phones go in general, ignoring the size which is a matter of subjective preference, the L1520 is definitely better.

And with the current advancement in technologies, 32gb aint what it used to be. Would surprise you how fast it gets used up. And if you are one of those people that like to possess lots of apps, it definitely isn't enough.

NOTE:
L1520 brings much more attention, if you're into that.

For guys in jeans, only way to carry 1520 safely would be using a hoister on your waist.

for 930, beware of burnt screen as it's AMOLED. Lifespan can be rather short for AMOLED as I had a Samsung Omnia W screen that died suddenly on 1.5 years.

I'm using L920 and considering switching to L1520. Why? Because L1520 has more advantages than the L930.
L1520 advantages:
- Bigger screen (obviously)
- Glance screen
- IPS LCD (better than AMOLED imho)
- Battery life (3400 mAh vs 2420 mAh)
- Storage expandable

L930 advantages:
- Gorilla glass 3
- pocket size (I don't like bringing bag around)
- Wireless charging

Issues I have found so far (quick research):
- L1520 has the swipe/tap bug
- L930 has quick drain battery (especially when browsing and play games)

Best thing, if you know anyone with either of the devices check them out if not then play around with them at the store. If you opt to get the 1520 go for the 1520.3, AT&T have gimped the 1520 (No Qi, halved the storage to 16gb then later released the 32 gb model).. bunch of zombies..

I'm really leaning towards the 1520. I work at Cricket, so I've been handling the 1320 a lot lately to get an idea of the size. And the whole pocket thing has been workable. Now to decide what color to get!!

With the latest update and a new back plate I bet it'd feel like a new phone. I think the Lumia 930 actually looks fantastic... it's strange because I wasn't crazy about the Icon, but I think the black/white along with all the Verizon branding is what made it look less than appealing to me. If I were you I'd order an orange back and swap out your white one.

I've seriously considered it. Just don't know if I want to pay $40 to do so. And on top of that, I do like the way the white looks. It's a very nice looking phone. I just appreciate the design of the 1520 more.

I hear ya... you can buy a brand new phone for that money (Lumia 520).
