Demo Unit "Device Alive"

Im looking to try out a WP7 device and I found a Quantum on craigslist. It is a demo unit that has the device alive software. He says it can't be deleted. Im an android user and am used to hacking and what not, so I was wondering if you cam remove it. If its there for good, how much will it effect device?
