Do you think toast notifications work well?

In my opinion, they don't. I rely heavily on social networking sites like Twitter or Facebook, but I don't think I get notified when the phone is locked. Is it maybe because they're not optimized for 8.1? I notice the notifications are late, or the notifications come up after phone is unlocked (minutes after). So with this case, I just set them to not allowed on the battery saver feature because I don't think they help w the the notifications.
