There's a scandal lately where it's been found that Spotify is constantly writing GB of data over and over to the drive. That will significantly shorten the lifespan of the SSD in the Surface Pro 4 (and any other machine with a SSD drive). Considering that the SSD is essentially unreplaceable in a Surface machine, it's essential that you do not let Spotify just sit in the background.
Over the course of a day, Spotify may be writing upwards of 700GB. It's not taking away your storage but rewriting data over and over. Spotify acknowledges the problem and will be issuing an update. Unfortunately this problem has been happening for awhile so who knows how much shorter the lifespan of our Surface Pro machines are now.
Until the solution is in everyone's hands, don't use Spotify.
