I type up a lot of papers, and on my Mac, I was able to make em dashes real easily, but on my SP2, it seems I can only do en dashes (the tiny dash, whatever it's called), which may not seem like a big deal, but it is to me, as I really need them. I was just wondering how I could use em dashes on my SP2, because that would be very helpful. I know there are hyphens, dashes, en dashes, em dashes, then horizontal bar. If you know how to do all those on a SP2, that would be great.

BTW, I'm using a Type Cover 2. Thanks.

In Windows, you can do it quickly with an external keyboard with a number pad. Alt+0150 on numberpad only is En dash, and Alt+0151 on numberpad is Em dash.

In Word, you can do it even more quickly if you have a number pad, but that requires an external keyboard. En dash is Ctrl+ Num Pad -, Em dash is Alt+Ctrl+Num Pad -.

However, you do have the option to switch that shortcut in Word. Go to insert>symbol>more symbols, find the one you're looking for, and then press "Shortcut key".

Thanks! But I can't do en/em dash with my Type Cover 2?

That's simple!
In Word just do 2x minus signs: "-", and it will convert it once you finish the following word.

Example:
You type: This is an example -- of a very miss use case of the em dash.

As soon as you hit space after typing the following word after the "--", (in the above case, the word: 'of'), it will convert the '--' into '–'.

So, you'll get at the end:
This is an example – of a very miss use case of the em dash.

Pretty neat, no?

Oh, sweet! Didn't realize it could do that! Thanks!
