Encrypted Chat - like Whatsapp? What about IE?

I'm getting more and more paranoid.

Is there an encrypted messenger like Whatsapp?

When using public wifi or hotel wifi, I want more protection.

Can I force my WP phone browser to run over https? And be warned if not?

You could pay for a VPN although most site use HTTPS automatically these days for anything important.

Being Paranoid is good. Believing in encryption is bad.

All the encryption in the world wont help if you have a rubbish password, or your security questions to reset passwords are easy to guess.

I take the view that everything i do online is being read by someone somewhere (generally Google), and tailor my content accordingly, rather than assuming because i've used encryption, that nobody will ever find out what ive done.
