I know it isn't very notable in the picture, but IRL it is much easier to spot. My Enter key does not come back all the way up. It works fine (for now, at least), but it isn't right. My SB was brand new in November, so I'm under the OEM warranty (and also have the extended warranty), so I contacted Microsoft support through chat, and was told that they only swap out the entire PC, not just the base. This is ridiculous - it amounts to swapping out an entire desktop PC, monitor and all, for a defective mouse. It makes no sense.

Has anyone been successful with a Surface Book problem that was only a problem in the base, at getting them to swap out only the base, so you don't have to reinstall all of your software?

No. I've even tried to remove the key to look under it. I've pried up with a screwdriver, and can see under it, but that key is attached good. It's not coming off.

I just ordered an external SSD from Amazon, and it'll be here tomorrow. I'll copy my stuff off of the PC and then take it to the MS store to see what they say. My six-plus year old external hard drive died while trying to copy it off yesterday. At least it gave me an excuse to buy an external SSD.
