Entered setup phone number wrong can't verify email

On setting up my Brothers Lumia 820 instead of entering his mobile number I stupidly entered his home telephone number. Now I can't verify his email address I feel awful. I can't even reset the phone. Please help me or I may have to buy him a new phone.
