Ever thought of this?

Why does battery saver need to be turned off in order for Facebook chat to work? I'd like to be on battery saver and use Facebook chat at the same time. Ever thought of that? They really need to do something about in future updates.

I think it is because battery saver turns off push notifications and background updates

This. Since Facebook chat and inbox are now linked, it is technically a push message to receive Facebook IM's.

Because battery saver turns off the background agent, which Facebook chat is depending on when you switch to other apps.

But only when you reach a low battery state, which I think is 15% (or maybe 20).

Does the Messenger also suffer the same problem ?
Got disconnected almost every time I turned the screen off.

Yes.
Like Jimski, I also thought it will just sleep until the battery got low.
