But in defense of the other manufacturers, the survival of their platform isn't hanging by a thread. Microsoft may be beating RIM in day-to-day sales but RIM still has a userbase of 79 million strong. WP8 sales could be quickly overtaken if those users decide to upgrade to BB10. And I think a lot of people are surprised at how poor sales have been for WP.
I spent a long time looking for an OS that didn't bore me to tears and Windows Phone really hit the sweet spot. It is fun, lively, fast and has quick access to all the programs I need for a smartphone. WP7.5 was great but lacking in a few areas but WP8 is a huge step forward and the hardware is amazing. However, despite how amazing it is, WP8 sells have only moved the marketshare needle a tiny bit, signaling that it's still going to take a while before WP becomes a mass market success.
A lot of early adopters and WP followers are frustrated by this and their response is to flood the forums with every little nitpick they can find. Plus, I think a lot of people expected all the pieces to fall into place when WP8 dropped, but the user experience was tainted by bugs, glitches, syncing problems and hardware defects. As disappointed as some may be, it's a good thing WP is backed by Microsoft because there's only a few companies that could toss away billions trying to make their phone a success.
