EXIF Data Missing in Transferred Photos

So when transferring photos taken with my Lumia to my Mac using Windows Phone Connector the photos end up losing their EXIF data (i.e. date/time taken & location info). Anyone else experience this? And is there a way around this? Been trying to search for a solution, but haven't found much of an answer.

can you see this data within phone itself? and how do you include the location? Does it also happen if you copy the pictures manually via "usb drive" ?
