You recently posted a list (https://www.windowscentral.com/best-router-verizon-fios) of "compatible" routers for Verizon FiOS that you can use to avoid a rental fee. This article requires a big disclaimer stating that this only applies if you only subscribe to FiOS internet and your Optical Network Terminal (ONT) is connected to your router via Ethernet and not coaxial. Installers typically set it up via coax, and the Ethernet port is actually disabled and requires Verizon to either remotely enable it or send a tech out.
If you subscribe to the FiOS TV service as well, you either need their router (which you can buy outright - no rental fee required) or a separate MoCA-Ethernet bridge. The set top boxes get their guide updates and on-demand programming via the router. Even if you do everything right, there are certain features of the TV service (such as remote viewing of your DVR and TV service) that will not work without their router - which is annoying lock-in BS, but that's how it works.
Either way, this list of routers looks like it was put together by someone who is not intimately familiar with how Verizon's routers work with the rest of the service and may end up resulting in some very unhappy readers if they just blindly follow these recommendations.
