Front page moderation/rules

I have seen an influx of trolls and non-ignorable spams in front page comments. Certain times I've tried to address these to Editors by replying to the comment as there is no "report" button on these comments. I do understand that our front page team is busy collecting and distributing news and their job may not be going through comments. We've discussed in the past that we do not moderate front page as editors like to moderate their own article comments. In contrast to our front page where only "first" and "faster" comments are deleted, places are The Verge actually remove trolling, racism, sexism etc types of politically incorrect comments.

I feel either mods should be allowed to induce a ban hammer or "delete as spam" action if and when they visit front page and find something offensive or a way for us to reach out to editors?

example comes from todays post - Facebook Beta for Windows Phone starts the week with a minor update | Windows Phone Central Florin Anghels racist comment. He has done this in past on front page and in forums. He is banned from our forums because of the same reason (Laura banned him). But he still freely does it on the front page and I am sure there are plenty such users hanging about.

Any thoughts, team?

Perhaps some clarification is needed as to why editors feel they need to have total control when clearly they don't have the time or desire to monitor front page comments.

I think the last time this came up Daniel Rubino stepped in and said that he likes the front page comments to be as unmoderated as possible because they show people's real-time reactions to the news, whereas the forums are more thought through. I understand that but I don't think we should be allowing racists/sexist/swearing etc comments. I'd personally support moderating the comments in these specific circumstances.

Yessir, lots of good stuff coming.

I would rather everyone focus their time and effort in the forums... don't want to stretch your efforts between the blogs and forums!

That said, as always, if you notice something highly questionable, rude or objectionable, let me know and we will take care of it on the blog side. Always appreciate the heads up.
