Got my band at the start of the year with the complete coverage, since then the band has split 4 times and now the 5th is going.

Seems like a really common issue and if what I have read is right the product has been discontinued?

What's the best way of getting my money back?

My store offered me a full refund on giftcard. I opted to keep getting a new one since I rather have a band than not... when no more exists, maybe I'll just try to use heat shrink to fix the band :)

I'm STILL on my first Band 2 so, maybe, consider how you're looking after them. They are not indestructible.
 
I had to actually chat with MS support because I don't live near a MS store and when I tried to schedule service it told me that no service was available. They sent me a label to return it and said that if there is no stock to replace it that they will issue a refund.
 
I sent my back 2 days ago as well, and they told me if there is no stock left they will refund my money too. Mine died again due to not charging/no battery connection. Just replaced it 2 months ago from the store.
