So... I finally got to try and use my band 2 to track my golf round. Lets say, it didn't go well.
I only got the distance off the first tee, nothing else would show up.
It would notify me when I reached each tee but no distances ever throughout my round.
It did track my shots accurately after hitting the action button and taking a swing though so that's the silver lining to a crap covered bag.
Everything I've read has said that distances come up fine but I couldn't seem to get them to come up at all.

C. nash i will do my best to help you.
I have used the band 2 for golf 6 times over the pass month.
Great device but there is a little learning curve.
Once you start up the band the distances front middle back will appear(see first photo with myroundpro data)
For example Par 4 350 first hole
Say you hit a drive in the middle of the fairway when you reach your ball hit the action button.
This will recalculate your yardage to the pin.

Same method applies when you move to a new hole.
Once you reach hole #2 you will see a dash located where front middle back would be.
Hit the action button to calculate your yardages.
The process takes about 7 to 10 seconds to get yardage information.

Hope this helps.

I tried that... But every time I hit the action button it would assume I was about to take a shot and it would wait for me to swing.

Umm......what makes you think it was waiting for you to swing???? If you mean the bar across the bottom that gets progressively shorter.....that's the GPS working out where you are so it can give you a distance. Push the Action button and wait until it locks onto GPS satellites, and it will give you your yardages to front, middle, and back.

There is no "assume" to measuring your swing. That is done via the motion sensors in the Band.....you don't need to ever tell it you are "going to swing".

Everything I have read prior says you hit the action button and then it displays the bars to tell you that it is good to swing... This is multiple articles I have read... Maybe I was misinformed.

Can I ask you, if the golf mode tracks calories, heart rate etc. too? My local course isn?t mapped for the time being - I have requested it - so I have given a go for trying to track my calories as "general exercise".

It's pretty scary, if accurate. Looks as if 20 balls on the driving range and then fast tempo guided on course lesson with a pro driving around with a cart for four holes burns almost 700 calories. For comparison, a high intensity general exercise session in my gym for 50 minutes with cross fit circuit and heavy compound lifting burns only 15% more.

I think Band 2 has an issue with the calory data...

I don't know where you read that, but that is incorrect. The only purpose the action button serves is to give a GPS yardage.

Yes, it tracks heart rate and calories during your round. In my last measured round (cart), I had 5,626 steps and 379 calories burned. Avg heart rate was 66, with a high of 81 and a low of 53.

Not sure why your calories seem so high......

Hi c.nash,

The progress bar after the action button is indeed a GPS progress indicator. At any point that indicator is not on screen, you are safe to take a swing! There is a built in delay between stroke detection, I forget what the exact value is, it is on the order of seconds.

Hitting the action button will give you current distance to the front, center, and back of the green. Whenever we detect a swing we also automatically record its location with GPS.

I've been using my B2 for golf and I'm pretty happy with the results. The only issue being my home course is not mapped correctly. I sent some feeback through MYRoundPro, offering to remap the issues for them. Still waiting on a reply, they probably have a pretty full inbox.

Used my new band today for golf and, as much as I wanted it to work, I was underwhelmed. Granted it was overcast, but I very rarely could get it to display my yardages. Also, it was very inconsistent in it's recording of my swings. Sometimes it worked great, even going so far as to detect tap in putts, but other times, nothing. It was easy enough to add strokes by swiping the band, but that is not way it is supposed to work. I'm going to try it again in a few days, hopefully, with better results. Is there a good online manual anywhere that shows you exactly how to use this app?

I also used it this past weekend and h yardages seemed to work most of the tie (when I actually looked), but my score was off. I was 15 over and it showed as 4 under.

If you get angry in the sand trap, we don't handle that well. ;)

There is a few seconds delay after a stroke is detected before we'll recognize another one, and for putts if you bend your wrist we won't detect them. The putts thing is on purpose, because, and I quote from the response to the bug I filed, "you aren't supposed to putt like that."

We argued a lot internally about should we have a vibrate or not after we detect a stroke, in the end most golfers who tried it disliked the distraction so we got rid of the haptic. This does mean you have to keep an eye out on the display though.

I continue to have issues with swings not being recorded. I have to remember to look at it (fiddle with it.....and it is distracting) and add a stroke when it misses. I would rather thave the haptic feedback.

The idea of mapping your strokes is great, but if you forget to check it before you move on and add the stroke later then all the mappins is off on that hole. And the delay waiting for the gps is also an issue. I realize that is the battery saver and since it uses 50% for a round, it likely would run out of juice if it stayed on.

Stroke detection is definitely worse on v2 than v1. I thought mine might have been defective so I brought it to the MS store. The rep told me I can't expect it to be as good or better than the first one since it is too new. I didn't really follow his logic but I'm hoping there are updates before spring comes.

It's pretty good on full swings, but anything on the green I've had challenges with. I would say it detects putts about 50% of the time. Especially with tap ins where you might not even use the arm that has the Band on it.

Just played another round and stroke detection was not very good at all. I was correcting it all the time. I am very disappointed with how this has worked. As is, it becomes very distracting because you have to check it and correct it each time.
I did get the GPS to work well. I learned you have to wait a little bit after you press the button. My Garmin watch is much more useful because GPS is on all the time and there is no waiting. I don't understand why MS can't do this with the band. Sure, it would use more battery, but if you start with a full charge, it should be ok. Maybe we should have the option to leave it on.
I am assuming that in order to track yardage on all your shots, you need to press the GPS button each time. Is this correct?
Thank you, devbent for being on this forum. That fact that you are as responsive as you are shows you really care. I love my MS band, but sure wish the golf app worked better. Hopefully, this is a software issue that can be improved over time.

I agree that haptic is not best method to confirm shot detection but I'd prefer display showing shot has been recorded to stay on a little longer as I often have to press power button to check. Overall working well for me on Band v1 and prefer using it to the game golf product.

Personally, I think I would like a haptic response whenever a shot is recorded. Maybe that could be an option.
