Not-so-patiently awaiting the GPS unlock for the Omnia.

Does anyone know what reported issues there are with the Saga and other Samsung updates from Verizon?

I'm a little paranoid about bricking my phone. I was very hopeful when I saw that Samsung had a page up yesterday, but disheartened that they've pulled it down. Hopefully that means that it's VERY close. I'd love to have the gps feature before the end of summer!

Omnia GPS on VZ Wireles UNLOCKED!!!!

Found this out yesterday afternoon (7/16/09 ) on Twitter by @SamsungMobileUSA They posted the upgrade way before VZ Wireless can spread the word.

You also log into VZ account & they may have the upgrade notice available. I didn't do that since I found out before VZ posted the info.

It took about 30 min. but well worth the wait. Back up your data & make a list of the programs downloaded. It erased by contacts & downloaded software like Live Search & Google maps. Once completed, you'll receive the factory setting like you initially bought it.


They have a much better settings page-- easy one touch. Somehow, my storage was not affected- meaning, I still had my pix & songs not deleted.

First thing I tried-- downloaded Google maps & guess what--- IT FOUND ME!!! WOOHOOO!!![/B]
I'm having issues with Live Search Or Bing Live Search.. Can't detect the GPS. I like Live Search because I can access everything- movies, traffic, restaurants etc.

Happy roaming without getting lost Finally!!! It's just fun!

I don't know if you guys know already but the OFFICIAL update was released on July 16th!! Yes!! the GPS does work on the Omnia i910 by Verizon Wireless.

VZ Wirelss may have provided the link when you log into my account.

I found out before VZW reps.. - he had to check his email to see if it was released. WOW!

First thing I did was try Google maps-- WORKS!! It found me in my house -even which side of the house I was at..

They also changed the keyboard- it pops up like the iTouch or iPhone. Also, a easier "one touch" buttons for the settings like flightmode, flashlight, bluetooth etc. Lastly, the volume control has a new image. it's a round dial on the screen. with tabs for the phone & system. No more of that tiny little icon.

It says to back up your phone via USB.. I did that but the only thing removed were my contacts, & downloaded programs. My pix & music were still on my storage card. You do have to change your settings back since it resets to factory settings after the installation.

Bing live is giving my problems with "track me" portion but "locate me using gps" works great. It's like a mini Garmin/TomTom/Magellian.

So get rid of the unofficial rom & finally use the long awaiting official release. Abouth time!

Flashed mine Friday. So far I've only used google maps, but it works like a charm. Sometimes it takes 3-4 minutes to find satellites, but once it does, it finds where I am with amazing accuracy.
